FDA grants approval for Abbott's antiretroviral medication Norvir

Abbott announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval of a new tablet formulation of the company's antiretroviral medication Norvir ® (ritonavir). The new Norvir tablets can be stored at room temperature and do not require refrigeration, making it more convenient for patients.

Concomitant use of dexlansoprazole and other PPIs with Plavix: TGRD U.S. initiates trial

Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc., U.S., (TGRD U.S.) announced today that it has initiated a trial to study how dexlansoprazole and several other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate) in healthy subjects. Top-line results from Optimer Pharmaceuticals' second fidaxomicin Phase 3 trial in CDI patients

Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced positive top-line results from the second of two pivotal Phase 3 trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of fidaxomicin (OPT-80) in patients with Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI). U.S. government resumes medical evacuations from Haiti; new food voucher distribution targeting women begins

"The U.S. government said on Sunday it would resume military evacuation flights" within 12 hours for critically ill and injured Haitians who were harmed in the Jan. 12 earthquake, Reuters reports (Rosenberg/Brown, 1/31). Medical evacuations had been suspended for a few days, but the reason for the suspension "is unclear as various government authorities have provided different explanations," the Wall Street Journal reports.
