Penn Medicine professor receives New Innovator Award from NIH

Hao Wu, PhD, an assistant professor of Genetics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has received a New Innovator Award from the National Institutes of Health. These awards provide each recipient $1.5 million over five years to pursue high-risk, high-reward investigations that could have implications for human health.

UCLA scientists discover potential combination treatment for brain cancer in adults

UCLA scientists have discovered a potential combination treatment for glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer in adults. The three-year study led by Dr. David Nathanson, a member of UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, found that the drug combination tested in mice disrupts and exploits glucose intake, essentially cutting off the tumor's nutrients and energy supply.
