Researchers devise a live cell morphological profiling approach using the xCELLigence RTCA System

The extent to which protein targets are modulated by drugs or small molecule compounds depends on a number of factors, including the expression levels of the target, the effective concentration of the compound, and the time needed for the compound to perturb the target. To address these restrictions, researchers Abassi et al. (1) have devised a live cell morphological profiling approach for dynamic monitoring of the effect of small molecule compounds that was based on impedance measurement of cells with the xCELLigence RTCA System of Roche Applied Science.

Prevention and eradication of FVIII antibodies could improve hemophilia treatment

Octapharma AG is leading an international initiative focused on confronting the major risk associated with hemophilia A therapy - anti-factor VIII (FVIII) antibodies, also known as inhibitors. This initiative, combined with Octapharma's efforts to pursue the first recombinant FVIII therapy produced from a human cell line, could dramatically impact the treatment of an estimated one in every 5,000 to 10,000 men born with hemophilia A worldwide.

Novelos Therapeutics enters into a definitive agreement with Purdue Pharma to raise funds

Novelos Therapeutics, Inc. (OTCBB: NVLT), a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of therapeutics to treat cancer and hepatitis, today announced that Novelos entered into a definitive agreement with Purdue Pharma L.P., an existing investor, to sell 13,636,364 shares of its common stock and warrants, expiring on December 31, 2015, to purchase an aggregate of approximately 4,772,728 shares of common stock at an exercise price of $0.66 per share, for gross proceeds of $9 million.

Scientists discover a new way for preventing liver metastases

Scientists in Switzerland have discovered a way to block the growth of human colon cancer cells, preventing the disease from reaching advanced stages and the development of liver metastases. The research, published today in EMBO Molecular Medicine, shows that blocking the so-called Hedgehog-GLI pathway can prevent the growth of tumours, metastatic lesions and cancer stem cells, the cells thought to lie at the root of cancer growth.

UT Southwestern awarded $763,000 as grant to expand studies of Peregrine's anti-PS antibodies

Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
