New ultrasound probe effective for treating kidney stones

A relatively new ultrasound probe procedure has the highest success rate for breaking down kidney stones in the lower "funnel" area of the kidney, rather than the shock wave treatment used for many years, according to a review of studies.

Repros announces results of its Androxal efficacy study for secondary hypogonadism

Repros Therapeutics Inc. today announced results from an exploratory, efficacy and safety study of its oral investigational product, enclomiphene citrate (Androxal®), in men with secondary hypogonadism who were receiving testosterone replacement treatment. Secondary hypogonadism is a deficiency state in which the male hormone testosterone goes below the normal range, even in aging men, due to inadequate stimulation of the testes by the pituitary.

LA BioMed granted $1.3M for investigating ESAI's KRONOS IV in correcting erectile dysfunction

Las Vegas-based Endogenous Stem Cells Activators Inc. (ESAI) announced today that it will award a $1.3 million grant to Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LABioMed) for pre-clinical studies aimed at activating penile endogenous (adult) stem cells with the company's drug, KRONOS IV.

Fifth SEEM anniversary meeting to be held in Belgrade

On 9 and 10 October the anniversary South Eastern European Meeting (SEEM) will be held in the Yugoslav Drama Theatre (Jugoslovensko Dramsko Pozoriste) in Belgrade (RS). Data for end-stage kidney disease in the United States available online

Incidence and prevalence data for end-stage kidney disease in the United States will be available online from the U.S. Renal Data System a year earlier than usual, announces the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health. In addition, the data will be updated online every three months and will show quarterly counts of patients at www.usrds.org/qtr/qrt_report_table_new.html.

Androgen deficiency linked to diabetes and cardiovascular diseases

Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) in collaboration with researchers from Lahey Clinic Northshore, Peabody, Mass., believe that androgen deficiency might be the underlying cause for a variety of common clinical conditions, including diabetes, erectile dysfunction, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease (CVD). These findings appear in the September/October issue of the Journal of Andrology.
