Marin Catholic High School's new SAS system reduces the presence of illness-causing microorganisms

Marin Catholic High School (MCHS) and CSG, the worldwide leader in environmentally-beneficial surface treatments, today announced the school is the Bay Area's first education facility to integrate the Surface Antimicrobial System™ (SAS). The most environmentally friendly and long-lasting treatment of its kind, SAS has transformed 10,000 square feet of high-touch surfaces in Marin's athletic facility into materials that continuously inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, mold, and fungi for three years. Additionally, the comprehensive treatment reduces the presence of illness-causing microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus, MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), and H1N1 virus.

The SAS treatment applied at MCHS has been applied to over 30 million square feet of surfaces in schools, professional sports franchises, universities, hospitals, and United States Military installations across America. Prominent users include the University of Southern California, New York Yankees, U.S. Olympic Basketball, Washington Redskins, Miami Heat, and all 42 schools in California's Clovis Unified School District.

"Providing our students with the best possible environment to exercise and compete in is always a top priority for the Marin Athletics Department," said Rick Winter, MCHS Athletic Director. "Marin is committed to doing everything it can to minimize the risk that bacteria pose to student athletes. After reviewing many different options, we found the SAS treatment is the most proactive and safe way to minimize the risk of skin ailments."

Areas treated in the athletic facility include: the wrestling room, training room, varsity football locker room and bathrooms, varsity girls locker room and bathrooms, coaches room and the general boys and girls locker room and bathrooms. Floors, lockers, mats, countertops, tables, toilets, sinks and showers are among the high-touch surfaces treated in each of the aforementioned areas. Although the antimicrobial technology powering SAS is an invisible, odorless, non-toxic coating, the benefits of the unique technology will not go unnoticed. The SAS treatment works constantly to prevent odor and staining commonly caused by harmful bacteria, mold, and fungi.

The comprehensive SAS application includes two of CSG's leading-edge products. Both are applied by certified applicators. The thorough process begins by cleaning and disinfecting areas tabbed for antimicrobial treatment. This portion of the process effectively eliminates illness-causing microbial contaminants such as MRSA, staph, H1N1 (Swine Flu), and ring worm. After properly cleaning the surfaces tabbed for treatment, the unique and innovative antimicrobial power of SurfaceAide® 1000 is applied.

Just one treatment of SurfaceAide 1000 will inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and fungi on surfaces for one year when self-applied and three years when applied by certified applicators. SurfaceAide 1000 is vastly superior to any other technology for several key reasons. The water-based antimicrobial fights a wide array of microbial growth 24/7, but more importantly SurfaceAide 1000 will not create adaptive organisms or "super bugs" like MRSA. Furthermore, the non-leaching antimicrobial characteristics of SurfaceAide 1000 make it the world's most durable and long-lasting antimicrobial coating.
