Medartis, Inc. will introduce the Company’s new Radial Head Plates at this year’s American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) annual meeting beginning today, September 3, 2009, in San Francisco at the Moscone West Convention Center. During the show, Medartis staff will be on site, Booth #137, to demonstrate and discuss the new product as well as the Company’s expanded line of Medartis products.

The new radial head plates are being released this month and will utilize the variable angle locking technology. During the ASSH, Medartis will be hosting a workshop, Innovative Fixation for Fractures of the Radial Head, and providing the attending surgeons an opportunity to work with the new product. The Medartis workshop will be held on Friday, September 4, and surgeons from across the country will be participating in it. The workshop will be conducted by Dr. William B. Geissler, Professor and Fellowship Director, Hand Surgery, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi and Dr. A. Lee Osterman, Professor, Hand Surgery, Philadelphia Hand Center, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to Dr. William Geissler, “The new Medartis radial head and neck variable angle locking plates are very low profile compared to previous plates which decreases soft tissue irritation with forearm rotation. In addition, multiple screws are able to be placed in the head for the excellent stability of the fracture and be directly where it is required in comminuted fracture patterns. The distal cage pattern allows for 4 screws to be placed in the radial shaft for distal stability though a relatively short plate to help limit risk of injury to the posterior interosseous.”

The Medartis expertise in metallurgy and fracture fixation has been honed for over fifty years and is now being applied to the Medartis product line. Medartis, Inc. is part of Medartis AG, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland.
