Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA has expanded its partnership with Surgical Information Systems (SIS) by adding anesthesia, business intelligence and tissue management capabilities to its existing system, and by extending the SIS Solution to Hoag Hospital Irvine, which is scheduled to open in 2010.

A SIS client since 2003, Hoag Hospital has leveraged its single database perioperative solution to enhance clinical, financial and operational outcomes. In November it chose to build on these successes by implementing additional tools to further optimize the surgery department's impact on the entire hospital. These tools include:

1. SIS Trax, a comprehensive tissue management system

2. SIS Analytics, the AHA endorsed perioperative business intelligence solution

3. SIS Anesthesia, a complete anesthesia solution that provides the accuracy and automation needed to manage patients and optimize anesthesia practice

Hoag will also be implementing the complete SIS Solution in the recently acquired Hoag Hospital Irvine, which is being updated to deliver a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services in 2010. This new facility will be an extension of Hoag's services in Newport Beach and its seven Hoag Health Centers throughout Orange County. This solution will also feature the HFMA Peer Reviewed SIS Rules-Based Charging along with AHA Endorsed SIS Scheduling and SIS Com.

"Our successful long-term relationship with SIS has enabled us to provide a higher level of patient care to the people in our service area," said Tim Moore, CIO at Hoag. "We've seen a great deal of improvement by automating the surgery department at Hoag Hospital with SIS. We anticipate that extending SIS to the new facility and investing in these new modules will show long-term benefits for both the organization and its patients."

SIS CEO Ed Daihl said that as the financial engine of the hospital, the importance of optimizing systems and processes in the perioperative department cannot be overstated.

"We're proud that our existing relationship with Hoag Hospital has proven the value that our system can bring to the rest of the organization," said Daihl. "Optimizing the performance of the perioperative department can significantly improve performance of both the department and the hospital as a whole. That's why many SIS clients like Hoag choose to expand their use of the industry leading SIS Solution, rolling it out to new facilities and incorporating additional tools to further enhance critical business and clinical outcomes."
