The Wall Street Journal: Britain's new, conservative-led coalition government says it will overhaul the national, government-financed health system by cutting back on the bureaucracy - to the tune of $30 billion between now and 2014 - and increasing funding for health services. "In one of the biggest changes, the government said it plans to eliminate a layer of financial managers and ask doctors instead to decide how the bulk of the National Health Service's £105 billion annual budget should be spent." The changes come in response to weak government funding and rising health costs (Whalen, 7/13).
