Offering greater access to cancer care services for Manhattan West Side residents in New York, Beth Israel Medical Center has opened the Beth Israel Comprehensive Cancer Center - West Side Campus in the facility formerly known as St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center (SVCCC). The facility, which originally opened in 1996, was one of a few Saint Vincent's outpatient services units untouched and left open when the iconic hospital closed its doors on April 30, 2010. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony launched the center on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.

Aptium Oncology, a 25-year leader in oncology consulting and management services which also managed the former St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center for 15 years, will provide administrative services. The Los Angeles-based company currently manages a number of cancer centers across the U.S., and counts several other hospitals and oncology practices as consulting clients. Beth Israel's partnership with Aptium Oncology creates one of the largest and most comprehensive multi-site cancer programs in the Northeast.

In addition to offering comprehensive and advanced cancer care services at Beth Israel's Petrie and Phillips Ambulatory Care Center sites, Beth Israel is extending its clinical leadership to the new Chelsea site, which will provide the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging and cancer supportive services, as well as leading-edge, nationally renowned clinical research. The transfer of services ensures critical continuity of care for the thousands of patients who make over 60,000 visits to the cancer center annually.

"We are very pleased that Beth Israel and Continuum Cancer Centers of New York have come together with Aptium Oncology to form this unique relationship," said Louis B. Harrison, Clinical Director of Continuum Cancer Centers of New York. "To offer the people of New York and the tri-state area excellence in cancer care is what we strive for."

Peter Jessup, Aptium Oncology's Chief Executive Officer, states, "The Aptium and Beth Israel partnership is an outstanding collaboration that bodes well for the future of cancer care. Helping Beth Israel build a top-tier oncology service line in this desirable community is both a privilege and a challenge, and we will work continually to earn Beth Israel's trust and confidence. The new center will forge one of the strongest and largest oncology programs in this region at a critical time in healthcare."
