The partnership between Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System and Stanford Hospital & Clinics has added another facet of care, bringing world-class organ transplant care to patients on the Central Coast.  Stanford's Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program will begin seeing patients at Salinas Valley Memorial's Ryan Ranch facility.

"Because of this new affiliation with Stanford Hospital & Clinics, people in the Central Coast region will have access to world-renowned clinical care and research," said Sam Downing, MBA, MPH, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System.  "Stanford has one of the premiere kidney and pancreas transplant programs in the nation, and our patients deserve the level of care that Stanford Hospital & Clinics will provide."

"We are excited to partner with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital to provide improved accessibility to our program for patients and our referring physician partners," said John Scandling, MD, Medical Director of the Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program.

It is Stanford Hospital & Clinics' commitment to research and innovation that makes it a pioneer in this specialized area of medicine.  Established in 1991, the Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program has a history of creating and embracing new advances in the field.  With more than 1,200 kidney transplants performed, the program has established innovative research protocols while exceeding national levels in quality.

This newest affiliation is the latest in multiple collaborations between Salinas Valley Memorial and Stanford Hospital & Clinics.  In the fall of 2008 the two announced the creation of the Stanford Cardiac Surgery Program at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.  SVMHS also partners with Stanford's Lucille Packard Children's Hospital in Salinas Valley Memorial's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Parental Diagnostic Center.

Stanford's Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program is expected to start seeing patients at Salinas Valley Memorial's Ryan Ranch facility in late August.
