Emdeon Commercial MedRx solution launched to make commercial medical claims process efficient

Emdeon Inc. (NYSE: EM), a leading provider of healthcare revenue and payment cycle management solutions, today announced the launch of Emdeon Commercial MedRx, a specialized processing solution that enables retail pharmacies to submit commercial medical claims electronically to medical payers and health plans across the U.S. This new solution is designed to operate entirely within standard pharmacy workflows and provides an efficient alternative to submitting claims through traditional labor intensive paper billing processes and manual entry web-based services.

"The launch of this new solution illustrates how our pharmacy customers continue to benefit from Emdeon's acquisition of eRx Network," said Mark Lyle, senior vice president of pharmacy services for Emdeon. "Emdeon Commercial MedRx leverages Emdeon's extensive commercial payer connectivity to offer an innovative pharmacy solution that helps make the commercial medical claims billing process more efficient."

By utilizing Emdeon Commercial MedRx, pharmacies can submit commercial medical claims electronically in standard National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) format for items such as crutches, syringes and immunizations that are typically covered by a patient's medical insurance coverage rather than pharmacy benefits. Claims submitted through Emdeon Commercial MedRx are subjected to a variety of real time edits related to patient eligibility, plan formulary and co-pay and deductible amounts that quickly deliver information back to the pharmacy in an effort to improve the accuracy of payment collection at the point-of-sale.  These features, in addition to the solution's integration with existing pharmacy management systems, are designed to help pharmacies simplify the claims filing process, streamline workflow and increase operating efficiencies.

Emdeon will be exhibiting at booth number 1502 during the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Pharmacy & Technology Conference in San Diego, August 28-31, 2010.
