VitalHealth and Mayo Medical Laboratories collaborate to offer EHR

VitalHealth (MGMA Booth #1560) and Mayo Medical Laboratories have entered into a collaboration to offer VitalHealth's Electronic Health Record (EHR) product, including a solution for physician office connectivity, as part of Mayo Medical Laboratories' outreach offering.

“We believe this offering will be valued by our hospital and health system clients”

VitalHealth will preview its EHR at the Fall 2010 Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Annual Conference, October 24-27, 2010, with a targeted release of 1st Quarter 2011.

"We believe Mayo Medical Laboratories, a global reference laboratory operating within Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, is the ideal collaborator to create awareness through its field-based sales staff. Mayo Medical Laboratories has extensive laboratory knowledge gained through its 40 year history and its long standing relationships with community hospitals engaged in outreach services throughout the U.S.," said VitalHealth CEO, Laurens van de Tang.

Less than 20 percent of today's small primary care practices in the U.S. use an EHR. Already burdened by keeping up with all aspects of running a medical practice, today's primary care physicians often consider EHRs too cumbersome and time-consuming to use. VitalHealth's EHR technology platform is based on several years of development at Mayo Clinic and will support the workflow needs of today's small medical practices, including point-of-care decision support, population management, reporting and ordering and resulting of clinical and radiology diagnostic tests.

This next-generation EHR is designed to be significantly easier to use than today's EHR solutions and minimizes data entry. The EHR solution connects either through Wi-Fi or 3G and is one of the first designed specifically for the Apple' iPad™.

Key features include:

  • Support for the workflow of primary care practices
  • Smart alerts and recommendations based on Mayo medical knowledge
  • Disease and population management
  • Integrated patient portal
  • Enabling Connected Medical Home and Accountable Care Organization
  • Certified for Meaningful Use
  • Secure wireless connection and HIPAA compliant

"We believe this offering will be valued by our hospital and health system clients," said Franklin R. Cockerill III, M.D., Chair, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and President and CEO of Mayo Medical Laboratories. "Healthcare reform is accelerating the integration of hospital providers and their affiliated physicians to provide improved patient outcomes at lower cost across the continuum of care. The dissemination and use of EHRs are a critical and necessary part of improved healthcare."

Slated for availability in early 2011, the solution will be delivered via the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, providing anytime, anywhere access via a secure web browser while also minimizing set up, training, and system maintenance time.
