Effective January 1, 2012, Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute will join Meriter Medical Group.  The practice, which includes 16 cardiologists, vascular surgeons and mid-level providers who are highly trained specialists with experience in all areas of cardiovascular care, will be renamed Meriter Wisconsin Heart.  Meriter Medical Group will thus have grown from 68 providers to 116 in less than 2 years, an increase of 71%.

All Meriter Wisconsin Heart physicians are board-certified in cardiology or vascular medicine. Many are also double- and triple-board-certified in subspecialty areas such as echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.

"Meriter Wisconsin Heart will continue to offer our area's most comprehensive 'head-to-toe' cardiovascular care," said Jim Woodward, president & CEO of Meriter Health Services.  "Our expanded cardiovascular capabilities and capacity are further evidence that Meriter is a first-rate, tertiary health system."

Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute is located at 2601 West Beltline Highway, Madison, in the Arbor Gate offices, and has the largest cardiovascular outreach program in southern Wisconsin, providing specialty care in ten Wisconsin communities, including Boscobel, Darlington, Edgerton, Friendship, Mauston, Platteville, Portage, Richland Center, Reedsburg, and Sauk City.

"Meriter understands the future of health care in this community and is taking the right measures to ensure that all Madison-area communities, urban and rural, will be well cared for," said Dr. John Moses, President, Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute.  "Meriter provides the highest quality care and best service in the region and shares our vision of better access for patients, personalized service, more efficient strategies, and affordable, high-quality care for all.  We also know that, as Meriter Medical Group physicians, we will have a strong voice in the development of Madison's health-care future, since we've already collaborated with Meriter to create Meriter's Heart and Vascular Hospital and the area's only accredited Chest Pain Center."

Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute is the only area physician group to earn national accreditation by the Commissions for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, Nuclear Laboratories and Vascular Laboratories for all three of its diagnostic laboratories.

"Meriter and Wisconsin Heart have big plans for expanding the region's cardiovascular assets," Moses said, "Joining Meriter Medical Group is the best thing we could have done for Madison's cardiovascular care."
