Hospice of the Western Reserve (www.hospicewr.org) is one of five organizations nationwide to receive a grant from Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation (www.jeffgordonfoundation.org), a non-profit organization in Charlotte, N.C., founded by four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon. Presented in conjunction with The Promise Circle, the $10,000 grant funds palliative end-of-life care, caregiver support, and bereavement services for Northern Ohio pediatric cancer patients.

A close alignment of missions was instrumental in awarding the grant.  Hospice of the Western Reserve's program complements other treatments, including curative care.  The Promise Circle believes families coping with childhood cancers should never be forced to make the choice between comfort and cure.

"We are committed to providing pediatric cancer care regardless of ability to pay, even though our pediatric palliative care program will cost us more than $400,000 in unreimbursed expenses in 2012 alone," said Bill Finn, chief executive officer.
