HCA renews contract with Florida Blue

Florida Blue and HCA (NYSE:HCA) announced today a contract renewal that ensures Florida Blue members will continue to have access to high quality care at HCA's 42 hospitals and 32 surgery centers throughout Florida.

The contract includes Florida Blue's BlueCare® (Health Options); BlueChoice® (PPC); BlueOptionsSM (NetworkBlue); Advantage65; BlueMedicareSM HMO; BlueMedicareSM PPO; and traditional indemnity plans.

HCA hospitals in Florida are among the state's leading healthcare providers and are responsible for more than 2.8 million patient encounters annually. Recently, 80 percent of HCA hospitals in Florida were named 2013 "Top Performers on Key Quality Measures" by The Joint Commission, the hospital industry's primary accrediting body.

"HCA and Florida Blue share a commitment to providing high quality, high value care to Floridians," said Juan Vallarino, Senior Vice President of Employer and Payor Engagement, who leads managed care negotiations for HCA. "We're pleased to renew this agreement and continue to provide Florida Blue members access to the premier care HCA provides."

"Continuing partnerships with leading health care organizations like HCA are key to helping Florida Blue achieve its mission of helping people and communities achieve better health," said Pat Geraghty, chairman and CEO of Florida Blue. "We look forward to extending our collaboration with HCA, which allows us to provide high-quality and affordable health care plans to our members throughout the state."
