MHS Health Wisconsin (MHS Health), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), presented its 7th Annual Summit Award to Maria Editha Bautista-Santos, MD, a family practice physician at Affinity Medical Group in Appleton, Wis.

The award acknowledges healthcare professionals for providing exemplary care and clinical excellence to MHS members throughout Wisconsin. A single award is presented annually.

"MHS Health Wisconsin is committed to recognizing Wisconsin healthcare professionals for the excellent care they provide to our members," said Robert Lyon, MD, chief medical officer for MHS Health. "We are pleased to recognize Dr. Bautista-Santos for the ongoing contributions she makes to improve the care, quality and long-term health outcomes of our members."

Winners of the annual Summit Award demonstrate superior performance in:

  • follow-up care after emergency room visits.
  • routine preventive and well-care services for both adults and children.
  • establishing a "medical home" for new enrollees by promoting the member-primary-care physician relationship. In the medical home model, each person has a primary care provider, who manages all healthcare throughout the patient's life.

Dr. Bautista-Santos is the third healthcare provider from Affinity Health System to receive a Summit Award. Sandra Zernzach, APNP, of Affinity Medical Group in Oshkosh, Wis., was the recipient of the 4th award, and Michael Krueger, MD, was the recipient of the 6th award. Dr. Bautista-Santos received her award Jan. 16.
