Confocal microscope designed specifically for scientists launched by Caliber ID

Caliber Imaging & Diagnostics, Inc. (Caliber I.D.), an Andover, MA-based medical technologies company with more than 20 years of experience in the design and development of innovative imaging solutions for the examination of tissue at the cellular level, has introduced its first confocal microscope exclusively for the research scientist, the RS-G4.

The announcement was made today at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Chicago, IL.

With applications in neuroscience, developmental biology, pathology and translational research, Caliber I.D.’s RS-G4 system is built to improve lab efficiency with optimized acquisition times, more scanning flexibility and greater image clarity over conventional imaging tools.

A long-standing industry leader in confocal microscopy technology, the company designed the RS-G4’s hardware with a compact, high-speed scan head with both macro- and micro-imaging optics that allow the scientist to acquire in-vivo and ex-vivo images at both micrometer and millimeter scales using the same instrument. In addition, ex-vivo tissue sections can be imaged in both reflectance and fluorescence modes to provide important data to researchers.

With 360-degree rotation of its compact scan head, the RS-G4 outperforms its predecessors with greater flexibility, precise angling and enhanced portability for acquiring images of large tissue, organs or whole animals.

Robust software capabilities deliver the RS-G4’s aligned images with seamless frame-to-frame clarity. Caliber I.D.’s proprietary “seam carving” technology employs a pixel algorithm to calculate the optimal match of adjacent frames and stitch large mosaic images.

In addition, the experimental mode in the RS-G4 software suite allows the scientist to customize acquisition parameters to the experiment, utilizing all available scope controls, including time, wavelength, X-Y position, Z stack and multi-point.
