A personalized elimination diet changed the gut microbiome in people with migraine

In a 12-week randomized, sham-controlled trial of 98 adults with migraine, eliminating IgG-positive foods altered gut microbial composition and produced a greater reduction in serum zonulin than a sham elimination diet. The microbial changes were associated with previously reported reductions in CGRP and IL-6 and improvements in migraine and sleep, although the authors emphasized that these mechanistic links remain exploratory.

Study links lower vitamin D to mood and cognitive health in adults over 85 with diabetes

Researchers studying 188 adults aged 85 years or older with type 2 diabetes found the lowest serum 25(OH)D concentrations among those with both depressive symptoms and mild cognitive impairment. Lower levels remained associated with having both conditions after adjustment for selected factors, but the cross-sectional study cannot establish causation or a benefit from supplementation.

Trial finds prunes do not outperform calcium and vitamin D for male bone density

A one-year randomized trial found that daily prune supplementation did not improve total or lumbar spine bone mineral density in older men susceptible to, or with, osteopenia. Although some bone turnover biomarkers differed between prune and control groups, these changes did not translate into measurable bone density benefits beyond calcium and vitamin D3 supplementation.

Researchers found that both acylated and deacylated ghrelin were elevated in unmedicated adults with major depressive disorder and obesity compared with non-depressed adults with obesity. The cross-sectional findings suggest ghrelin-system dysregulation may be linked to depression in obesity, but larger longitudinal studies are needed to test whether ghrelin is a reliable biomarker.

Silica nanoparticles dampen early allergy signals in mouse mast cells

This in vitro study found that negatively charged SiO2 nanoparticles suppressed antigen-induced degranulation and activation-marker changes in IgE-sensitized mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells. By contrast, mTiO2 nanoparticles showed cytotoxic and pro-inflammatory effects, including enhanced DNP-induced IL-6 release, suggesting nanoparticle composition can shape early allergic immune responses.
