Providing patients with direct access to their imaging test results could improve patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. However, physicians are concerned that it could lead to increased patient anxiety and unrealistic demands on physician time, according to a study in the April issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (www.jacr.org).

Thomson Reuters selects Rush University Medical Center as one of 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S.

Rush University Medical Center was selected as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the United States by Thomson Reuters. The annual Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals National Benchmarks study identifies the 100 best U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance. Rush was one of only 15 major teaching hospitals in the country to be named.

There's no need to fear that patients' health information will end up in the hands of CIA officers, FBI agents or other federal agencies that deal in security and law enforcement, David Blumenthal, the national coordinator for health information technology, said last week, according to Modern Healthcare. He "denied allegations that a framework for selecting data transmission standards for the proposed national health information network would configure the system to afford federal control over patient data and funnel that information to federal agencies, including the CIA, Justice Department and National Security Agency."
