Rexahn Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a clinical stage pharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing first-in-class oncology therapeutics, today announced that it has been issued a United States patent (No. 8,314,100), titled "1-[6,7-substituted alkoxyquinoxalinyl) aminocarbonyl]-4-(hetero) arylpiperazine derivatives."

Australian TGA approves Genzyme’s AUBAGIO to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis

Genzyme, a Sanofi company, announced today that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved AUBAGIO (teriflunomide) 14 mg as a new once-daily, oral treatment indicated for patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS).

HHS has made it clear that after federally operated exchanges are up and running, states may eventually take over operations. This seems like wasted effort. States have the information they need to move on insurance exchanges. Governors who care about fiscal responsibility, strong state government and the basic welfare of their residents would do well to get with the program.

Novartis receives FDA approval for Flucelvax to prevent seasonal influenza

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced today the approval of Flucelvax, the first seasonal influenza vaccine licensed in the United States produced using cultured animal cells, instead of fertilized chicken eggs. Flucelvax is approved to prevent seasonal influenza in people ages 18 years and older.

Study: 2-PMPA improves cognition in mice with MS

Johns Hopkins researchers report the successful use of a form of MRI to identify what appears to be a key biochemical marker for cognitive impairment in the brains of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). In follow-up experiments on mice with a rodent form of MS, researchers were able to use an experimental compound to manipulate that same marker and dramatically improve learning and memory.

Lupin’s Fenofibrate tablets now available in the U.S.

Pharma major, Lupin Ltd., announced today that its subsidiary, Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (collectively, Lupin) has launched its Fenofibrate Tablets, 48 mg and 145 mg strengths in the United States. Lupin had earlier received final approval for the same from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Aradigm’s Lipoquin provides full protection in murine models of pneumonic plague

Scientists from the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) report, in a preliminary study, that they have demonstrated that a single dose of Aradigm Corporation's liposomal ciprofloxacin formulation Lipoquin administered 24 hours after exposure to a lethal dose of the bacterium Yersinia pestis provided full protection in a murine model of pneumonic plague.

Janssen receives positive opinion from EMA CHMP for ZYTIGA to treat mCRPC

Janssen-Cilag International NV (Janssen) announced today that the Committee for Medical Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has granted a positive opinion recommending approval of the oral, once-daily medication ZYTIGA for use in combination with prednisone or prednisolone in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), in adult men who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic after failure of androgen deprivation therapy and in whom chemotherapy is not yet clinically indicated.
