MSTAR Program fosters interest in geriatric medicine and research

This milestone is an indication of the upcoming increase of older adults in the American population, and accompanying it will be an increase in their complex medical needs. We currently have a shortage of physicians specializing in geriatric medicine, leaving a gap that needs to be filled." states Stephanie Lederman, Executive Director of The American Federation for Aging Research.

Loss of estrogen receptor alpha protein may lead to metabolic syndrome

UCLA researchers demonstrated that loss of a key protein that regulates estrogen and immune activity in the body could lead to aspects of metabolic syndrome, a combination of conditions that can cause Type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis and cancer.
