Ampio’s CRO completes Optina clinical trial for DME

Ampio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, whose lead drugs treat inflammatory diseases, including osteoarthritis and complications of Diabetes Mellitus such as diabetic macular edema (and others) announced today that it's CRO has completed analysis of the primary end point in the Optina clinical trial for DME conducted at St Michael Diabetes Hospital in Toronto Canada.

Data from first feasibility study of artificial pancreas system

Results from the first feasibility study of an advanced first-generation artificial pancreas system were presented today at the 72nd Annual American Diabetes Association Meeting in Philadelphia. Findings from the study indicated that the Hypoglycemia-Hyperglycemia Minimizer (HHM) System was able to automatically predict a rise and fall in blood glucose and correspondingly increase and/or decrease insulin delivery safely.

Dapagliflozin more effective than sitagliptin for adult patients with type 2 diabetes

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and AstraZeneca today announced results from a Phase 3 clinical study that showed the investigational compound dapagliflozin 10 mg demonstrated significant reductions in blood sugar levels (glycosylated hemoglobin levels, or HbA1c) compared with placebo at 24 weeks when either agent was added to existing sitagliptin therapy (with or without metformin) in adult patients with type 2 diabetes.

Sanofi announced today that people with early type 2 diabetes uncontrolled on metformin demonstrated superior HbA1c - glycated hemoglobin - reduction with Lantus (insulin glargine [rDNA origin] injection) versus sitagliptin.

Study examines factors linked with survival after CEA in patients with asymptomatic ICA stenosis

While carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is performed to prevent stroke, long-term survival is essential to ensure benefit, especially in asymptomatic patients. A new study presented at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery today examined patient factors associated with 5-year survival following CEA in patients with asymptomatic internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis.

Glucose-lowering regulations in people with prediabetes achieves reduction in progression to diabetes in the long term

People with “prediabetes” (a high risk state for overt type 2 diabetes) who experience a period of normal glucose regulation are 56% less likely to develop diabetes 5∙7 years later, according to a new research Article presented at the American Diabetes Association 72nd Scientific Sessions on Saturday 9 June, and published Online First in The Lancet. This is one of four Articles (all presented at the American Diabetes Association 72nd Scientific Sessions) and a Series of three papers that are part of a special Lancet theme issue on diabetes [1].

Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Alkermes plc today announced results from the long-term extension of the DURATION-1 study, which showed that BYDUREON (exenatide extended-release for injectable suspension), the first and only once-weekly treatment for type 2 diabetes, was associated with clinically significant and sustained improvements in glycemic control during four years of treatment in adults with type 2 diabetes.
