Pfizer releases Phase III study results comparing VFEND-ERAXIS combination to VFEND for IA

Pfizer Inc. today reported the top-line results of an international Phase III clinical trial which compared the combination of VFEND (voriconazole) and ERAXISTM (anidulafungin) to VFEND monotherapy for primary therapy of invasive aspergillosis, a life-threatening invasive fungal infection that can develop as a complication in patients with compromised immune systems.

Array announces results from selumetinib Phase 2 combination study on KRAS-mutant NSCLC

Array BioPharma Inc. today announced results from a randomized Phase 2 placebo-controlled study conducted by AstraZeneca comparing the efficacy of selumetinib in combination with docetaxel with docetaxel alone in the second-line treatment of 87 patients prospectively selected with KRAS-mutant, locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.

Percutaneous hepatic perfusion extends survival time for melanoma patients

Melanoma of the eye frequently spreads to the liver and, once this has happened, there is no effective treatment and patients die within an average of two to four months. Only about one in ten patients live for a year. Now, final results from a phase III study have demonstrated that a new treatment significantly extends the time patients can live without the disease progressing.

Top-line data from Spectrum's SPI-1620 Phase 1 combination study on carcinoma

Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company with fully integrated commercial and drug development operations with a primary focus in hematology and oncology, today announced that top-line data from part one of a two-part Phase 1 study of SPI-1620 in combination with docetaxel was presented in an oral presentation at the 12th International Conference on Endothelin, held in Cambridge, United Kingdom, from September 11-14, 2011. Vesicular stomatitis virus kills cancer cells

In a new project, researchers from LIFE - the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen - document that the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) plays a previously unknown dual role in the prevention of a number of cancers. The new findings show that the virus both kills cancer cells and stops the expression of the molecules which certain types of cancer cells produce to hide from the immune system.
