Novo Nordisk in-licenses intellectual property rights to IL-21 antibodies

Novo Nordisk A/S and ZymoGenetics, Inc. today announced an agreement where Novo Nordisk in-licenses a fully-human anti-IL21 monoclonal antibody (IL-21 mAb) developed by ZymoGenetics, as well as broad intellectual property rights covering IL-21 mAb and the development of other IL-21 antibodies.

Pfizer to present study findings from its expanded breast cancer portfolio

Pfizer Oncology announced today that it will be presenting study findings evaluating several compounds including those from its newly expanded breast cancer portfolio following the recent acquisition of Wyeth, focusing on the needs of multiple breast cancer patient populations at the CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) being held December 9 – 13.

Pfizer announces a $9M cancer research collaboration in British Columbia

Pfizer is entering into a three-year, $9-million research collaboration with the BC Cancer Agency and the Vancouver Prostate Centre, a University of British Columbia (UBC) and Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) Centre of Excellence, to tackle new treatment avenues for breast, ovarian and prostate cancer. This is the single-largest investment by Pfizer into British Columbia's public research sector, and it recognizes the strength and world-class cancer expertise that resides in this province.

Bioactive sponge to eliminate normally fatal tumors

InCytu Incorporated, a therapeutic device engineering company, announced the details of its Cellarium™ Cancer Vaccine program. Cellarium™ is a small bioactive sponge which regulates dendritic cells and T-cells to eliminate normally fatal tumors in a preclinical model of late stage melanoma. The details of such a promising new vaccine were published for the first time in Science’s Translational Medicine Journal.

Study on deaths from cancer in Europe shows steady decline in mortality

New figures on deaths from cancer in Europe show a steady decline in mortality between the periods 1990-1994 and 2000-2004. Deaths from all cancers in the European Union (EU) between these two periods fell by nine percent in men and eight percent in women, with a large drop among the middle-aged population.
