Promising results of ABRAXANE for bladder cancer support efficacy of nab-driven chemotherapy

Abraxis BioScience, Inc. announced today that findings from a phase 1 randomized trial demonstrated that the nanoparticle albumin bound (nab®) driven chemotherapy, nab-paclitaxel (ABRAXANE® for Injectable Suspension; paclitaxel albumin protein-bound particles for injectable suspension) is well-tolerated and active in the second-line treatment of high-grade, non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer that has been refractory to standard intra-bladder infusion (intravesical) therapy.

Scancell Holdings Plc, the developer of therapeutic cancer vaccines, today announces a strategic collaboration with ImmuneRegen BioSciences, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IR BioSciences Holdings, Inc.. Under the agreement, Scancell and ImmuneRegen will work together to investigate the synergy between ImmuneRegen's Homspera® and Scancell's ImmunoBody® vaccine technologies.

Incidence of skin cancer cases increases particularly among teenagers

With the family beach vacation right around the corner, keeping children's skin safe under the hot, summer sun should be top of mind for every parent. Recently, doctors at Nationwide Children's Hospital have seen an increase in the incidence of skin cancer cases among children ages 5-16-years-old, and particularly among teenagers. In fact, melanoma - cancer of the skin's pigment elements - is now responsible for approximately one out of 10 cancer cases in adolescents ages 15-19-years-old.

ZymoGenetics commences Phase 2B study of PEG-Interferon lambda in hepatitis C

A new study has provided further evidence of a link between indoor tanning and melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Scientists at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health and Masonic Cancer Centre claim that their study, which is published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, "definitively links" the use of sunbeds to melanoma.
