Phase 3 U.S. registration study of LODOTRA shows improvement in patients with RA

Horizon Pharma, Inc., announced today that data from the Phase 3 U.S. registration study of LODOTRA, a circadian cytokine modulator and novel modified-release, low-dose prednisone tablet, showed a statistically significant improvement in American College of Rheumatology response criteria in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Abbott, Neurocrine enter collaboration to develop, commercialize elagolix for endometriosis-related pain

Abbott and Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. today announced that they have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop and commercialize elagolix for the treatment of endometriosis-related pain. Elagolix is a novel, first-in-class oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist, which has recently completed a phase IIb study in endometriosis. In addition to endometriosis, elagolix will be evaluated for the treatment of uterine fibroids.

A new systematic review they have conducted shows that topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are more effective than placebos for treating short-term pain and have few side effects.

Sulindac shuts down cancer cell growth, initiates cell death: Study

Without knowing exactly why, scientists have long observed that people who regularly take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin have lower incidences of certain types of cancer. Now, in a study appearing in Cancer Cell on June 15, investigators at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and their colleagues have figured out how one NSAID, called Sulindac, inhibits tumor growth.
