Study finds cognitive behaviour therapy safe for chronic fatigue syndrome

The aim of this study is to examine the frequency and severity of symptom deterioration during cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Patients receiving CBT do not experience more frequent or more severe symptom deterioration than untreated patients. The reported deterioration during CBT seems to reflect the natural variation in symptoms. Thus, CBT is not only a helpful, but also a safe treatment for CFS.

Study: IV ibuprofen decreases pain, morphine use in pre and post-operative orthopedic surgery patients

Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. today announced the publication of new data supporting the safety and efficacy of Caldolor® (ibuprofen) Injection in pre and post-operative orthopedic surgery patients. The study, which was published in the August edition of the peer-reviewed journal Pain Medicine, concludes that IV ibuprofen significantly decreased pain and morphine use when compared with placebo.

Promising skin cancer drug in the near horizon

A new drug has been developed to combat a deadly form of skin cancer – melanoma. The drug, PLX4032, was tested on 32 melanoma patients who had a key mutation in their tumors. 26 of these patients responded favorably says the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

A new Geisinger study begins to unlock the puzzle of painkiller (opioid) addiction - why some people are more likely to become addicted than others. Geisinger investigators have found that patients with four common risk factors have a significantly higher risk of addiction. In addition, a history of severe drug dependence and drug abuse compounds the risk.
