American International Pathology Laboratories (AIPL), a division of Bostwick Laboratories, opens its doors today, providing positions to more than 40 civilian pathologists and staff formerly of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The 150-year-old Institute will cease operations when Walter Reed closes under the Federal Base Realignment and Closure program.

Dr. Evan Farmer, M.D., an internationally recognized dermatopathologist, will serve as Medical Director of AIPL. Under his direction, AIPL will continue the Institute’s mission of providing premium anatomic pathology services to governments, scientists, physicians and patients, with an emphasis on anatomic pathology specimens and related services. “The professionals at AIPL are the leading experts in their fields and we are thrilled to provide a place for them to carry on their important work,” said Dr. Farmer. “Their experience, combined with the state-of-the-art virtual pathology equipment in our new facility, makes us one of the most sophisticated and advanced providers of second opinions and consults in the world. Assembling a team like this, at one time, is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we couldn’t be more pleased that they chose to work with us to continue their important mission.”
