Entertainment Arts Research, Inc. (EARI) today announced that they have issued a letter of intent to acquire Explain My Surgery, Inc. (EMS) and have the company become a wholly-owned subsidiary of EARI.

Explain My Surgery, Inc. (EMS) operates ExplainMySurgery.com, which is an independent, unbiased, interactive, online educational source of information for patients who are considering surgical options. The site was created to provide patients information, in laymen’s terms, to help them weigh the risks and benefits of surgery; which can be a life altering decision. The site provides information in an easy, yet comprehensive format that hopefully will empower each patient to make an informed decision regarding their surgery and to have realistic expectations of the results.

The ExplainMySurgery.com interface is a HIPAA-compliant website that guides patients through an easy-to-use information delivery system. It is a beneficial tool for patients at home, in the hospital admission's area or even in the physician's office. At their convenience and own pace, patients have the ability to search for their specific surgical procedure, review how the procedure is performed, review the risks and benefits associated with procedures and attain a better understanding of their prognosis. A report will then be generated and sent to the hospital and physician which can be incorporated into the patient medical records prior to informed consent.

In addition to the benefits that Explain My Surgery provides patients, physicians and staff also benefit from the site by helping to facilitate better communication and also document that adequate education was provided. Explain My Surgery is not to replace the doctor, but to help focus the patients on specific issues so that face-to-face doctor patient interaction is maximized. EMS provides a service that is free of charge to physicians.
