Hastings Hearing Centre's initiative to spread the word concerning the consequences of hearing loss

Brandon's Hastings Hearing Centre is attempting to spread the word concerning the consequences of hearing loss. The clinic hopes to do so by connecting with the community through the sport of hockey.

Hastings Hearing Centre has been a source of hearing healthcare in Brandon for the past 40 years, and has recently hosted hockey legend Bobby Baun, as the celebrated ex-defenseman is a big advocate for hearing loss. The two-time Memorial Cup winner and four-time Stanley Cup winner wears hearing instruments himself, and currently supports the hearing impaired who are dealing with withdrawal or endeavouring to re-gain a normal life where they can hear properly. Mr. Baun spoke to a number of attendees, young and old, who were interested in both his career and his struggles with hearing. After answering questions, he signed autographs and reminisced about old players that were represented on trading cards the community had brought in for him to see.

Apart from this initiative, the Hastings Hearing Centre has announced that it is officially sponsoring the Brandon Wheat Kings. The clinic's manager, who travels on a weekly basis to treat rural communities around Brandon that cannot receive proper hearing healthcare, is delighted that healthy hearing will be further promoted at the Wheat Kings' games.

Jeffrey Geigel, president of Hastings Hearing Centre, says that "this new sponsorship is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of healthy hearing in all areas of our lives, including sports. Whether on the ice, on the sidelines, or watching from the comfort of your home, good hearing helps to better experience the game of hockey."
