Boston AIDS Africa, a Boston-based initiative
to respond to the AIDS pandemic in Africa by providing vital supplies to
care for those suffering with HIV/AIDS in Africa, announced today that it
has partnered with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in
Cambridge, who will host a community-wide Caregiver Kit Build Event on
April 3, 2010 at the MIT Johnson Ice Rink.
"We are thrilled that MIT has generously donated their facilities for the
2010 event," said Carol Slicklen, Boston AIDS Africa co-chair. "Our hope is
that the Boston community will come together to help an African community
devastated by AIDS. MIT is leading the way by providing us with their
distinguished facilities for this cause."
Boston AIDS Africa has partnered with World Vision
(www.worldvision.org/carekits), an NGO that trains and equips volunteer
AIDS caregivers in many remote regions in Africa. Last year Boston AIDS
Africa sent 3,200 caregiver kits to Rwanda.
Robert Randolph, MIT's Chaplain to the Institute, is enthusiastic about
MIT's partnership with Boston AIDS Africa. "We are delighted to host
Boston Aids Africa. This event offers people from a variety of backgrounds
and religious traditions an opportunity to work together to respond to this
global need. It seems particularly fitting that we will do so after
Passover and before Easter when a message of hope is on the lips of many."
How to Help:
Organizations and individuals can contribute to the Boston AIDS Africa
initiative by funding caregiver kits. Sponsors can then assemble the kits
they fund at the Kit Build event at MIT in April 2010.
