U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius
and Attorney General Eric Holder will convene a “National Summit on
Health Care Fraud” on Thursday January 28, bringing together leaders
from the public and private sectors to identify and discuss innovative
ways to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in the U.S. health care system.
The National Summit is the latest initiative of the Health Care Fraud
Prevention & Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), which was announced by both
leaders in May 2009. The partnership between the two agencies has
focused their efforts to reduce and prevent Medicare and Medicaid fraud
through enhanced cooperation.
This unprecedented all-day session is a first of its kind between law
enforcement and the private and public sectors. The summit will focus on
sharing best practices and experience to develop new ways to eliminate
health care fraud.
