Faculty of 1000 Biology, the award-winning literature awareness service for the life sciences, has launched the much anticipated Otolaryngology Faculty.

The world's top head and neck surgery experts will highlight and evaluate the most important research articles in their field. This new faculty, http://f1000medicine.com/browse/OTOL, is headed by distinguished clinicians Charles Cummings and Patrick Bradley and comprises 7 sections, each led by top scientists in those fields.

"We are very pleased to announce the launch of our new Otolaryngology section and are excited to be working with Drs Bradley and Cummings, our new Heads of Faculty, and with the global team of expert Faculty Members they have invited to join them. The addition of Otolaryngology further strengthens F1000's already extensive coverage of medicine", says F1000 Managing Director Jane Hunter.

Faculty head Charles Cummings is a Executive Medical Director at Johns Hopkins International and Senior Editor of Cummings Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. For him, the value of this new service is clear, "F1000 will bring together some of the world's top head and neck surgeons and researchers to review the literature that matters. It will provide insights into cutting-edge research which will save practitioners time and energy by sign-posting the most important articles and providing informed opinions."

Faculty head Patrick Bradley is Joint Editor of Current Opinions Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and Consultant and Professor Emeritus at Nottingham University Hospitals. He says, "Otolaryngology is a vast specialty with daily improvements in diagnosis, investigations, treatments, and outcomes. This knowledge far exceeds what anyone can keep up with, and so a service such as F1000 is an incredibly important resource to help specialists ensure they keep abreast of best quality practice."

These respected leaders in the field have helped recruit over 100 international otolarngology experts to act as Section Heads and Faculty Members. A full list of the researchers involved in this new faculty is available on the F1000 Medicine website.

The new Faculty includes 7 sections: Rhinology and Paranasal Sinus Disease; General Otolarngology; Otology/Vestibular/Audiology; Head and Neck Disorders; Laryngology/Phonosurgery/Speech Evaluation; Pediatric Otolaryngology; and Cosmetic and Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgery.
