"Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives showed they have heard the voice of America's families by passing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and sending it to the President for signature," said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation's leading Hispanic health advocacy group.
According to Dr. Delgado, one in three (37.1%) working adult Hispanics are uninsured and the economic crisis is increasing the number of families that must go without insurance. "Today's action will bring to 32 million Americans the peace of mind brought by access to health insurance," commented Dr. Delgado after this evening's vote in the House.
Tonight the Alliance issued a call to its membership across the nation to write to their Senators to urge the Senate's swift action on the Reconciliation Act of 2010 passed alongside the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in the House to complete Congressional action on health insurance reform.
In marking passage of health insurance reform legislation, Dr. Delgado, emphasized "we must remember the work that still lies before us in order to secure the best health outcomes for all. We must work to control costs in health care without sacrificing lives. We must ensure all of America's families have the building blocks of healthy lives: clean air to breathe and clean water to drink; affordable and healthy food; safe places to work, learn, and play; and a health system that values the positive role of culture in health and well-being."
