United Concordia Dental's enrollment reaches 8 million membership mark

United Concordia Dental, one of the nation's largest dental insurers, today eclipsed 8 million members.

"This is a significant achievement for us," said Chip Merkel, president and chief operating officer of United Concordia Dental. "Reaching the 8 million membership mark demonstrates our commitment to provide high-quality, cost-effective dental benefit programs that meet the changing demands of today's marketplace. We credit this accomplishment to our employees who provide superior service each and every day."  

United Concordia Dental's membership growth can be attributed to new sales and enrollment increases among the company's existing customers.

"In 2009, we worked smarter to strengthen the core elements of our business and position ourselves for success," said Merkel. "Our enrollment numbers show we took significant steps toward meeting the expectations of our customers, members, participating dentists and producers."

Established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Highmark in 1992, United Concordia is the nation's second largest dental-only carrier. The company, with more than 40 years of experience in the dental insurance industry, maintains a participating provider network of more than 68,800 dentists at 109,386 practicing locations.
