JEBDP to commemorate 10th anniversary by distributing special issue on restorative dentistry

Elsevier, a world leader in health care and medical publishing and online solutions, today announced that its Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice (JEBDP) will celebrate its 10th anniversary by distributing a special March 2010 issue on restorative dentistry to faculty members, senior dental students and all dental residents in the U.S.

"As the most authoritative and respected evidence-based journal in American dentistry, JEBDP is pleased to commemorate its 10th anniversary by sharing breakthrough insights on restorative dentistry with every dental student, all dental residents and many faculty members in the U.S., as well as its many print and online subscribers," said Michel G. Newman, DDS, Professor Emeritus, UCLA School of Dentistry, Section of Periodontics and JEBDP's Editor-in-Chief. "Sharing new evidence-based insights reinforces Elsevier's mission for clinicians to advocate the use or rejection of a procedure based on solid evidence available in the clinical literature."

Co-sponsored by Nobel Biocare (Gold), 3M ESPE (Silver) and Ivoclar (Bronze), JEBDP's restorative dentistry special issue covers critical subjects in dental materials and restorative dentistry, including composite resin and bonding agent longevity, ceramic restoration durability, dental implant performance, and the impact of certain restorative practices on patient satisfaction and quality of life.

"Dental practice is evolving as more dentists use advanced materials in complex ways to restore or replace teeth," Dr. Newman said. "Understanding studies that evaluate the strengths and limitations of these materials and procedures is critical to developing informed treatment plans that facilitate patient choice in treatment and improve overall decision-making."

The restorative dentistry issue was developed by Robert Kelly, Ph.D., DDS, Director, Dental Clinical Research Center at the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center, and Bruce Dye, DDS, MPH, (CAPT USPHS), Dental Epidemiology Officer, National Center of Health Statistics and JEBDP's Associate Editor.

Drs. Kelly and Dye solicited the opinions of a variety of dental experts who analyzed and graded recently published restorative dentistry research and commented on the importance of evidence-based research, product development and marketing, and unsettled areas of investigation and practice.

"The insights within this special issue of JEBDP have the potential to bring many dental practices up-to-date and augment undergraduate dental curriculum content," said Dr. Dye.
