Impact of health care reform on federal employees to be discussed on AFGE radio show

"State of the Unions" Author also to be Featured on AFGE Radio Show

The impact of health care reform on federal employees and their families will be discussed this week on the American Federation of Government Employees' (AFGE) "Inside Government" radio show. The show will air on Friday, April 16 at 10 a.m. ET nationwide on Federal News Radio at www.federalnewsradio.com and 1500 AM in the Washington, D.C., area.

AFGE Legislative and Political Director Beth Moten will address the new health care legislation and what it means for federal employees – now and in the future. Moten will discuss in detail the following:

• Health care benefits for adult children of federal employees enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program
• The excise tax that starts in 2018
• Closing the Medicare "doughnut hole" for seniors

Philip Dine, author of "State of the Unions: How Labor Can Strengthen the Middle Class, Improve our Economy, and Regain Political Influence," then will discuss the importance of today's labor movement for the middle class and U.S. economy. Dine also will address communications strategies for unions and how that impacts labor's involvement in American politics. Lastly, Dine will share his thoughts on the future of labor and ways unions can increase membership levels.
