What

Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights becomes one of the biggest, busiest and most advanced hospitals in Illinois with a $250 million addition set to formally open May 1.

You don't have to "go downtown" anymore for the best medical care in Chicago.

As illustrated in the past Monday's Daily Herald story, "Surgeon tackles 'inoperable' pancreatic cancer," NCH is becoming the hospital of medical miracles – where patients from around the country -- who have been turned away by the likes of the Mayo Clinic -- come to be treated.

Every single aspect of NCH's new nine-story addition has been designed with faster healing in mind:

  • 200 spacious private rooms: they're more than a luxury – they lower the chance of airborne infections, decrease the incidence of patient falls and reduce medical errors.
  • Multiple nursing stations on each floor reduce staff fatigue and increase effectiveness in delivering care
  • Green design with rooftop gardens, the use of soothing colors and a focus on quiet surroundings all promote healing.

When

The new NCH is opening during the week of April 25, beginning with an Open House (3,000 people are expected) from 1 – 5 p.m., Sunday.

The official move-in day for the hospital's new addition is May 1.
