Merge Healthcare (NASDAQ: MRGE) has combined its expertise in medical imaging and clinical trials management software to launch a complete workflow solution for imaging in clinical trials. The new CIMS solution is the first open platform in the industry that allows organizations involved in clinical trials to transparently execute the imaging portion of the study within the overall electronic trial management solution.

“The launch of the CIMS solution is the realization of this, and we are looking forward to introducing our customers and partners to this new solution, as well as myEDC and the entire eClinical suite, at the DIA.”

"Currently radiologists who participate in clinical trials have to move from reading images on fast and robust PACS solutions for normal work, to reading trial images on totally different applications or even film," says Justin Dearborn, Merge Healthcare CEO. "It is terribly inefficient for them, and the FedEx costs of moving film are very expensive for the trial sponsors. We developed the new CIMS solution specifically to truly solve these workflow issues. We believe it will save time and money by providing a better reading environment, and it should really change the way imaging in clinical trials is done across the industry."

etrials CIMS™ is the first commercially available 21 CFR Part 11 compliant network for managing all aspects of imaging in clinical trials. The CIMS platform automates the full workflow of image submission, image storage in a vendor-neutral DICOM archive, and image analysis and viewers. This allows radiology experts, sponsors, sites, and CROs to more efficiently and economically complete the imaging portion of a clinical trial. Moreover, CIMS can fully integrate with any EDC system to provide end-to-end visibility to all data in a clinical trial.

Merge's CIMS solution will debut in booth 2311 at the DIA Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C. from June 13-16, 2010. In addition to CIMS, Merge will be launching the recently-released myEDC™ solution at the show. This solution brings a new way of thinking about electronic data capture by giving users control over the design and deployment of their studies. myEDC provides an economical, wizard-driven solution that enables users to get studies up and running in days without the need for a technical team, and without the cost and time associated with full service solutions.

"Our entry into the eClinical space last year was predicated on a strategic objective to combine our core expertise in imaging with EDC technology," says Mr. Dearborn. "The launch of the CIMS solution is the realization of this, and we are looking forward to introducing our customers and partners to this new solution, as well as myEDC and the entire eClinical suite, at the DIA."
