Republicans, Obama administration spar over health overhaul

A Heritage Foundation-affiliated conservative advocacy group, Heritage Action, will begin targeting lawmakers "at home in their districts" who fail to support the GOP-led efforts to repeal the overhaul with political ads and other tactics,  according to The Hill, which quoted Michael Needham, the just-launched Action group's CEO "The effects of Obamacare are being felt more and more every day. For Americans all across the country, the reality of a hostile government takeover of health care is setting in and poll after poll continues to show the public's disapproval. We must act now to reverse this poor policy." The Hill notes: "The campaign to repeal the healthcare law has faltered since Republicans started floating the idea right after the bill was signed into law in March" (Pecquet, 6/16).

Meanwhile, The Associated Press reports, "A new Associated Press-GfK poll finds public support for President Barack Obama's new health care law has risen to its highest point. The nation remains divided, with 45 percent in favor and 42 percent opposed to the president's signature domestic accomplishment." Last month, the poll found that 39 percent supported the bill and 46 percent opposed it (Alonso-Zaldivar and Tompson, 6/17).
