CVS/pharmacy celebrated its entry into the Omaha market today with a grand opening at one of its two new stores in the city of Omaha.  Joining CVS officials at the ceremony were The Honorable Jim Suttle, Mayor of Omaha and City Councilmember Thomas Mulligan, District #7.

Omaha is the latest market that CVS/pharmacy has expanded its presence to in 2010, including St. Louis, Memphis and Puerto Rico.

"We are pleased to open our first stores in Omaha and provide the community with high quality and convenient pharmacy services at a great value," said Dennis Palmer, Senior Vice President of CVS/pharmacy - West Division.  "As we continue to enter new markets such as Omaha, we remain committed to making pharmacy solutions effective and easy for our customers."

CVS/pharmacy's new stores in Omaha feature all of the products and services for which millions of customers across the country visit its stores every day, including:

  • A full service pharmacy staffed by highly trained pharmacists and pharmacy staff
  • A complete line of health and beauty products including many brands exclusive to CVS/pharmacy
  • General merchandise and digital photo-processing
  • The CVS ExtraCare Rewards Program, which offers customers money back through Extra Bucks that are earned by shopping in-store or at www.cvs.com

CVS/pharmacy has opened two Omaha stores:

  • A 24-hour store at West Maple Rd. & 144th St.
  • A second location at Fort St. & 108th St.

Additional locations in the market are planned over the next several years.

As part of the grand opening celebration, CVS/pharmacy announced that it signed on as a Silver Sponsor of the ALS Association's three Walk to Defeat ALS events in the state of Nebraska.

CVS/pharmacy is a long-time supporter of the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.  Earlier this summer, CVS/pharmacy held its 9th annual in-store fundraising campaign across its 7,000 stores to benefit the ALS Therapy Alliance.  In its first 8 years, the campaign has raised more than $19 million for ALS research.  Results from the 2010 campaign will be announced soon.

Treg Charlton, CVS/pharmacy's Regional Director of Real Estate for the Omaha market, served as an honorary co-chair of this year's ALS fundraising campaign.  Charlton was diagnosed with ALS last spring and was one of the CVS officials present at the Omaha grand opening event.

"CVS/pharmacy is committed to giving back to the communities where it does business, and I am delighted that we could make an immediate impact in Omaha through our sponsorship of the Walk to Defeat ALS," said Charlton.  "CVS/pharmacy also donated 60 cases of water to the Omaha ALS Walk and more than 100 CVS employees and family members participated in the event."
