Millennium Laboratories, a leading provider of medication monitoring services to physicians and staff treating chronic pain, announced today that James Slattery, CEO and founder, has received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® 2011 San Diego Award in the Life Sciences category. The Ernst & Young award recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.  Mr. Slattery was selected by a panel of independent judges and the award was presented at a gala event in San Diego on June 16.

James Slattery said, "This is a tremendous award and I am honored to share it with our Millennium team of customer-focused employees. I want to thank them for working tirelessly with me in building our company. Our customers also share in this recognition as they have honored us with their loyalty that has enabled Millennium to emerge as a leader in medication monitoring services to the pain management community."

As a former police officer and husband to a palliative care nurse, James Slattery witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of end of life pain and prescription drug abuse and misuse. In late 2007 he founded Millennium Laboratories to help meet those challenges. Under his direction as CEO, the company has sought to be part of the solution by monitoring medication usage in chronic pain patients and helping to mitigate the abuse and misuse of prescription drugs. Millennium Laboratories offers physicians treating chronic pain numerous diagnostic choices in their healthcare delivery, along with valuable information and education needed to best help their patients. In just over three years, the company has experienced remarkable success and rapid growth, establishing itself as a leader in its field.

Today, Mr. Slattery directs his energies in the area of advancing pain research and practitioner education in pain care. To that end Millennium Laboratories established the Millennium Research Institute in 2010. The Millennium Research Institute is a non-profit, national research center that conducts and disseminates original research focused on greater understanding of the treatment of pain, improvements to patient safety and identification and prevention of prescription drug abuse.
