The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan is pleased to announce: Walkin' on the Wild Side for Hemophilia, its third annual fundraising walk at the Detroit Zoo.  Walkin' on the Wild Side for Hemophilia takes place on Sunday, August 28, 2011.  Executive Director, Ivan Harner said, "come and join in with hundreds of walkers to raise money to support the programs of the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan: youth leadership, camp, counseling, referrals, and financial assistance, while taking in the beauty of the Detroit Zoo."

Form a team, walk by yourself, or be a virtual walker -- support the cause without actually walking!  Adults, children, families, co-workers, and friends; people of all ages are encouraged to join. Registration (with breakfast) begins at 7:45 a.m.; the 2.1 mile Walk kicks off at 8:45 a.m.  This year HFM has added more activities: crafts for the kids, a strolling magician, and a photo booth providing a souvenir of the event -- fun for the whole family! Prizes will be awarded for largest walk team, most money raised by a team, individual, and youth.   93.9 The River will be there with music and entertainment. Everyone is invited to stay and enjoy a day at the zoo after the Walk.

Over the last two years, Walkin' on the Wild Side for Hemophilia has raised $200,000 -- just over the annual cost of treatment for a person with hemophilia. In 2010, we had 983 walkers and were supported by 75 volunteers and many corporate sponsors. HFM hopes to increase all these numbers and wishes to acknowledge Presenting Sponsor, Baxter, along with Bayer, CSL Behring, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer, without whose support this event would not be possible.

Once again this year, for every contribution of $100 made by Wednesday, August 24th, the individual donor's name will be put in a drawing for three exciting prizes!  These prizes include a 42" plasma TV (delivered to winner's door), an Apple iPad2, and an Amazon Kindle.  Winners will be drawn immediately after the Walk ends at 10:30 a.m. on the Grassy Knoll at the Detroit Zoo.  Winners need NOT be present.

For a minimum donation of $15, an individual will receive admission to the event, refreshments, a Walk t-shirt, entertainment and the rest of the day at the zoo. There is no admission charge for children under 2 years of age.  Please keep in mind this event is a FUNDRAISER – we need everyone's help to exceed last year's amount to support services for individuals with bleeding disorders and their families.
