SAFE Structure Designs supports nonprofit providing prosthetic legs to amputees

SAFE Structure Designs, a Las Vegas-based defense engineering and manufacturing company led by President and CEO Johnny Buscema, is supporting 50 Legs as a donor and raising awareness of its work helping children and adults with limb loss access quality prosthetic legs.

Based in Clearwater, Florida, 50 Legs helps people pursue greater mobility, independence, and confidence through professionally fitted prosthetics and personal support. SAFE hopes that sharing the organization's mission will encourage more businesses and individuals to contribute.

"Steve and I share a love for Jesus Christ, and I'm honored to call him a friend," said Buscema. "I see his faith reflected in the way he serves people-with compassion, encouragement, and tireless dedication. He brings hope by helping children receive prosthetic legs and by showing the love of Jesus Christ through his actions. We give God the glory for allowing SAFE to support this work."

Steve Chamberland: Turning Personal Experience Into Service

50 Legs founder Steve Chamberland lost a leg in a motorcycle accident in 1999. His experience as a person who uses a prosthetic leg helped shape his commitment to helping others obtain the care and equipment they need.

Chamberland understands how a properly fitted prosthetic can affect everyday movement, physical activity, and confidence. Through 50 Legs, he has worked to make that support accessible to children and adults facing financial barriers to prosthetic care.

Buscema describes Chamberland as a hardworking man who balances full-time employment with a personal investment of time and energy in the nonprofit.

Steve gives so much of himself to this mission. He works hard and still makes time to help people facing challenges he understands firsthand. To me, that dedication reflects a heart for serving others and putting his faith into action."

Chamberland has also undertaken the Boston Marathon course using his prosthetic leg to raise funds for 50 Legs. The organization's marathon fundraising brings supporters together to help more recipients access prosthetic care.

Prosthetic assistance that opens new possibilities

50 Legs works with trusted prosthetic providers to help recipients obtain custom-fitted prosthetic legs. The organization states that recipients are not billed for their prosthetics and that it works with insurance when coverage is available.

Its support includes activity-specific prosthetics that can help recipients participate in sports and recreation. For children, the organization also addresses the recurring need for replacement prosthetics as they grow.

Access to appropriate prosthetics can help children participate in activities with their peers and help adults pursue everyday independence and personal goals. The organization also connects recipients with resources and support from people who understand limb loss.

"A prosthetic leg can help a child join an activity, move more comfortably, or take another step toward independence," Buscema said. "Those moments matter to the child and the entire family. We are thankful to support an organization that helps make those possibilities more accessible."

Community support and faith in action

SAFE Structure Designs' donations contribute to 50 Legs' mission. By highlighting the nonprofit and its founder, SAFE hopes to broaden awareness of prosthetic assistance and encourage community involvement.

"Our faith in Jesus Christ calls us to love others and put that love into action," Buscema added. "We are grateful to play a small part in this work. Our hope is that sharing Steve's dedication and the impact of 50 Legs will inspire others to help bring mobility, encouragement, and renewed hope to people with limb loss."

SAFE encourages businesses and individuals to learn about 50 Legs, read its recipient stories, and consider making a donation. Visit https://50legs.org/ to learn more and explore ways to support its work.
