RCHT deploys Watch4net APG to consolidate visibility of IT data storage systems

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) has selected Watch4net APG to consolidate visibility of their disparate IT data storage systems in order to gain insight into performance and capacity information to proactively manage storage resources.

Watch4net APG is a best-in-breed performance management application that provides real-time, historical and projected views into the performance of business-critical systems, including storage. APG collects and continuously analyzes thousands of metrics across the corporate infrastructure, providing valuable insight into the health of key assets.

The pressure to optimize the IT infrastructure is particularly acute within a hospital trust, with a special burden placed on storage systems, not least as a result of large files coming from medical imaging equipment. By deploying Watch4net APG, RCHT will be able to better manage the capacity of their storage infrastructure and can now move away from inefficient hard-allocation of storage towards an environment where allocation of storage can be based on actual usage trends and furthermore can be allocated on demand allowing budget to be ear-marked in advance according to predicted need.

"The aim is that APG will provide us with an end to end view, from application to storage, of our SAN environment and will help us to make the best use of all the storage that we have deployed," said Steve Stevens, Server Manager at RCHT. "Being able to set thresholds against storage capacity to predict when capacity will near a critical level, will allow us to make the best use of our resources and protect the services we offer."
