Finding ways to end elder abuse is the theme of a free seminar sponsored by the Congress of California Seniors Region 3. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the St. Regis Retirement Center, 23950 Mission Blvd., in Hayward.
"Our senior community is growing and elder abuse is on the rise," said Karen Anderson, Chairperson. "It is critical that we discuss, learn about and create solutions to identify and prevent elder abuse."
The luncheon will feature two guest speakers who will speak on "Planning with Purpose: Commitment to End Abuse of Seniors and Elders."
Jill Nielsen, LCSW, is Adult Protective Services Supervisor with the Department of Adult, Aging and Medi-Cal Services in Alameda County. She is passionate about protecting vulnerable elders and disabled adults.
Julie Batz is one of the elder abuse attorneys for Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS). She represents Alameda County seniors in court to obtain Elder Abuse Restraining Orders. She also assists seniors in their consumer issues, specifically educating and handling illegitimate debt issues.
