Arzeda, INVISTA partner to develop new technologies to enable novel bio-derived processes

INVISTA Technologies S.à r.l. and Arzeda Corp. announce a collaboration for the development of new technologies to enable novel bio-derived processes.

The agreement brings together complementary technologies: INVISTA's capabilities in biotechnology and catalysis, and knowledge of the chemicals industry; and Arzeda's unique synthetic biology and enzyme design capabilities. The two companies are collaborating in order to further co-develop their technology platforms, with the goal to ultimately develop new bio-derived processes for a range of products.

The initial focus of the collaboration will be on the production of bio-derived butadiene.

"As we seek innovative solutions to increase the global supply of butadiene, we believe developing a cost-competitive bio-derived route will help assure ample supply and reduce price volatility," said Bill Greenfield, executive vice president of INVISTA's nylon intermediates business. "We believe this collaboration effort is a great opportunity to leverage INVISTA's biotechnical research with the unique capabilities of Arzeda and accelerate product development within the broader, bio-derived chemical space."

"We are delighted that INVISTA, a world leader in fibers, resins and chemical intermediates—with a track record of innovation in the field of chemicals—chose Arzeda's enzyme design and synthetic biology technology platform," said Alexandre Zanghellini, co-founder and chief technical officer at Arzeda. "This agreement is not only further validating the industrial value of our technology, it also provides an excellent opportunity to extend our platform in a brand new way. We really look forward to the future of this collaboration."
