Specialist private medical college Medipathways is announcing a new 2-year honours degree programme in Biomedical Science, the first of its kind in the UK, open to students now awaiting their A level results and wishing to start in September 2013. Designed specifically for medical or dental school entry, the course awards successful graduates a BSc in Biomedical Science upon completion.
Taught in London on the Birkbeck campus and validated by the University of Buckingham, this unique programme offers a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and real-world application through a range of teaching methodologies, such as lectures, small group tutorial sessions, one-to-one personal tutoring, seminars, practicals and personal assessments. Modules on offer range from fundamental studies in Cellular Biology to the importance of Ethics and its central role in the field of biological and human research.
Whilst studying with Medipathways, students will receive special attention for their UKCAT/BMAT, work experience and interview preparations, optimising their chances for entry to medical school. Furthermore, students can also apply for UK medical or dental school after just the first year. This gives students three opportunities for gaining entry to medical school over a two year period; a traditional three year BSc route only allows for two opportunities.
Also on offer is the opportunity for Medipathways students to pre-qualify, at the start of their course, for the final four years of six year medical degrees at overseas institutions, to be taken up on successful completion of their Biomedical Science Bsc. Graduates then have the option of completing their MD abroad but are not penalised should they also secure a place at a UK medical school. And while at Medipathways, UK and EU may qualify for UK student finance.
On the campus of Birkbeck, University of London, students will have access to the university's state of the art library and ICT facilities, and will also have the option to become an associate member of ULU (University of London Student Union).
Tuition fees for the 2-year degree programme are equal to those for similar 3-year BSc programmes across the UK. Fees for the 2-year degree programme are £27,000 in total and international students are not charged a higher fee, in sharp contrast to most other universities in the UK. Medipathways also offers an unrivalled bursary scheme for the 2-year degree programme. A bursary of up to £15,000 is available to eligible home students, subject to a means testing policy. In addition, UK and EU students now have the option to apply for student finance via the Student Loans Company to help fund the course for September 2013 entry.
