OhioHealth selects DataMotion to provide Direct Secure Messaging services

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

After a thorough evaluation of technology vendors, OhioHealth, a nationally recognized, not-for-profit healthcare system serving a 40-county area, has selected DataMotion, an innovative health information service provider (HISP), as its provider of Direct Secure Messaging services for its community of 28,000 physicians and associates. DataMotion's™ Direct Secure Messaging service will enable OhioHealth's providers to easily and inexpensively exchange health information securely while remaining in full compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

In related news, OhioHealth has achieved 2014 certification of its electronic health record system (EHR) from the Office of the National Coordinator's Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) using DataMotion Direct Secure Messaging as "relied upon software." As a result, the organization can attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) and qualify for financial incentives from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

"We partnered successfully with DataMotion as a HISP to certify our EHR for Meaningful Use Stage 2 and are now integrating DataMotion Direct with our Epic EMR," said Cris Berry, RHIA, Program Manager CareConnect Ambulatory, OhioHealth. "We've found DataMotion to be a knowledgeable, responsive, and trusted partner we can recommend without hesitation."

The selection by OhioHealth further solidifies DataMotion as a leading HISP. Recently, DataMotion reported it has enabled, or is under contract to enable, 34 EHR systems to achieve 2014 ONC-ATCB certification using its Direct Secure Messaging service. The HISP also announced it is interoperable with EpicCare EMR and MEDITECH, enabling customers of these leading EHR vendors to attest for MU2 and qualify for financial incentives.

DataMotion is fully accredited by the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP) for HISPs from DirectTrust.org and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). It also is a Trusted Participant in the DirectTrust Accredited Trust Bundle.

"The goal of accreditation is to ensure a strong, standards-based framework that supports the secure exchange of health information via Direct," notes David C. Kibbe, MD, president and CEO of DirectTrust. "DataMotion is a valued member of the DirectTrust community, working collaboratively with other HISPs to assure their subscribers will be able to reliably connect across the network on a national basis, and without the need for one-off negotiating or side relationships. I've been very impressed by their energy and expertise, as well as their commitment to helping their clients improve community-wide patient care."

DataMotion was founded in 1999, and today, millions of desktop, tablet and mobile users leverage its proven, cloud-based data delivery platform to securely transmit protected health information (PHI). In the fall of 2012, the company expanded operations as a HISP and introduced DataMotion Direct. This breakthrough secure messaging service offers easy-to-use data transfer capabilities for "real-world" healthcare communications including secure email for sending and receiving PHI, summary of care documents and large images for both in and out-of-network communications. It also allows organizations to quickly integrate with the Direct Project, comply with MU2 and qualify for subsidies from the ONC. As a result, DataMotion Direct has grown rapidly and now serves organizations across the healthcare spectrum, including healthcare providers, EHR, HIE and interface engine vendors.

"OhioHealth is one of the top large health systems in the U.S. in good part because they constantly strive to develop practices that produce the best possible patient outcomes," said Bob Janacek, chief technology officer for DataMotion. "Our Direct Secure Messaging service enables healthcare organizations to communicate securely, easily and cost-effectively, allowing them to focus on patient care rather than IT issues. We find it very validating that after researching many solutions, OhioHealth found DataMotion technology the best for meeting their high standards."
