Rasmussen College's Medical Assisting Diploma program earns accreditation from ABHES

Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college and Public Benefit Corporation, today announced its Medical Assisting Diploma program in Overland Park and Topeka, Kan., has earned accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). ABHES is a nationally recognized higher education accreditation organization specializing in both institutional and programmatic accreditation of programs in the allied health field. Rasmussen College also announced it is lowering tuition for its Medical Assisting Diploma by 35 percent for new students starting in October.

"As Rasmussen College continues to focus on making a higher education more affordable, we are excited to lower tuition for new students enrolling in our Medical Assisting Diploma program—helping to make it more accessible and fill a significant need in the healthcare field," said Denise Stead, Medical Assisting national program coordinator at Rasmussen College. "We are also proud to learn our Medical Assisting Diploma program in both Overland Park and Topeka is being recognized for meeting national standards for medical assisting education and for successfully preparing our students to both work and excel in the medical assisting field."

Program accreditation by ABHES is necessary for a graduate to be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam—a certification that is both nationally recognized and, in some cases, preferred by employers. Rasmussen College is pleased to share that past medical assisting graduates at both its Overland Park and Topeka campuses are also now eligible to sit for the CMA exam immediately.

Medical Assistants in High Demand
With a projected job growth of 29 percent in the next 10 years and 26,990 annual job openings, medical assisting is one of the most in-demand healthcare fields across the country. In Kansas, medical assistants are needed to work in hospitals, physician's offices, outpatient care facilities and insurance companies. The Medical Assisting Diploma program is offered through a blend of on-campus and online courses and can be completed in as few as 15 months. It prepares students to provide critical, direct patient care, perform EKGs, draw blood, record vitals, and administer immunizations and first aid. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to take the CMA. They can also seamlessly transfer their credits into the Medical Assisting Associate's degree program at the Rasmussen College Overland Park or Topeka campus.
